What your marketing mistakes could be costing you

If you’re making mistakes with your marketing campaign, you might be spending hours and hours trying to create an online presence, but failing to get the results you’re looking for.

The following four marketing mistakes are among the most common. Once you improve your marketing tactics and solidify your marketing plan, you’ll watch your personal fitness business flourish and waste less time on tactics that just aren’t working.

1. Using the wrong social media platforms

If you’re focusing on LinkedIn rather than Facebook, chances are you aren’t reaching as much of your target market as you could be. Choosing the right social media platforms for your business is just as important as the content you post.

Once you choose the right social media platforms for your business, make sure you’re sharing the right kinds of content. To figure out what you should be posting about, you can write a list of topics you think your clients would be interested in. Once you’ve figured that out, be sure to post frequently.

2. Not using SEO

SEO is your best friend. It might be hard to wrap your mind around at first, but following some basic SEO principles can help you tremendously. The most common SEO mistakes include:

  • Duplicating content
  • Having low-quality website copy or not enough of it
  • Poor use of keywords
  • Poor site structure or broken pages
  • Not maintaining your Google My Business profile
  • Forgetting to post new content on your blog

If you don’t want to handle SEO for your business, you can always outsource it to an agency that offers SEO as a service.

3. Issues with your website

Website issues fall under SEO mistakes, however, websites are so important that they should be looked at as a standalone entity as well. If your website doesn’t look good or include the type of information your target audience is looking for, it won’t be useful and lead to new client relationships.

Additionally, if your website is built poorly you’re going to have issues ranking. No matter how great your content is, a poorly built website can prevent search engines from crawling your site.

Broken links and slow load times all contribute to this issue. If a search engine struggles to do this, there’s no way you’ll make it to the first page of Google.

4. Having no marketing budget

If you haven’t set aside any money for a marketing budget, you won’t be able to use any paid channels or services to grow your client base. With a marketing budget you can afford:

  • Google AdWords
  • Hiring a social media specialist
  • Advertisements on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter
  • Promotional materials
  • Backlinks
  • Different tools (e.g. HootSuite or YOAST)

You don’t need to be setting aside heaps of money for your marketing budget, but having enough to afford the marketing tactics you will benefit from is key.
